if i knew then (an acrostic)

taken gifts return to
  heal the torn pieces of
every word i ever wrote on her
back as she breathed
  every breath of me
  air all full of
                   us
  tasting like contentment not
  yet attained, like wine not
yet ready (to drink
               one soul one
               universe too small for two)

perfect in my mind she
  let me see
  a dream she
  never dreamt of me
to let me take for granted
  eternity and i
                     did

guided by such
  rapturous dreams, breaths
  of breaths of us
  we
      stumbled

sometimes we
  took without asking sometimes
  in
     love we gave
     laughter that still smiles

it tickles me
                  now
my friend
             you can
hear me smile now
  every day
  as i
       remember the most beautiful
  time
