In mid-October Stac and I headed up to Drummond Island, which sits off the eastern tip of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to take in the fall colors and get back to nature (from the comfort of a lakefront log cabin at the awesome Drummond Island Resort, of course). While the place is known for a killer golf course, we opted for a rainy Saturday afternoon of sporting clays since neither of us golf. I can't believe I didn't capture photos of any of that, but suffice it to say that my baby handles a 20 gauge much more adeptly than I handle a set of golf clubs. Anyway, here's some of the stuff we did manage to remember to shoot (with the camera), when we weren't too busy oohing and ahhing over the spectacular setting (or each other...;^).
Mackinaw Bridge. |
Cabin deck. |
Cabin living room. Check out the sweet sofa and hermetically sealed, wall-switch-activated gas fireplace. |
We were truly roughing it. |
View from the cabin. |
It was equipped with very cool glasses; we're trying to find these, so if you know anyone who sells them, please email me. |
Something tells me I just built a fire. |
Fall colors (that's what I'm talkin' 'bout). |
The weather wasn't overwhelmingly cooperative... |
But the scenery cut through the haze. |
And it did finally get nice on Sunday. |
We attempted to hike to Marblehead peninsula on the Eastern shore... |
But baby got tired. |
We did make it to the beach, however. |
Cool, eh? |
While we were taking a "break" from a bike ride, Stac tried to choke me. |
Puddle in the trail. |
Some hearty U-per flowers.
|
We actually found leaves to match Stac's pants. I always figured her for an "autumn". |
Obligatory romantic sunset. |
Obligatory romantic rock waterfall/fireplace built into dining room of local restaurant/party store. The owner built this with his bare hands, and yep, those rocks are real. |
A masterwork of subtlety. |
Waiting for the ferry ride home. |
What? Rednecks in Northern Michigan? |
